Spirit Week by the Prefect Committee

What is Spirit Week about at SISHK? It’s a week-long event where many students and staff come dressed in creative designs in the various themes suggested by the prefects. Spirit Week aims to cultivate a culture of togetherness and unity through dressing up together.
We started the event with the highly popular Twins Day! Everyone tried to look and act completely the same as their twin. It was surely an interesting day figuring out who twins were as you could pick anyone within the school to dress up with.
The week then continued with Crazy Hair Day. Students and teachers did their best to come in really outrageous hairdos. It was a rare occasion when exaggerated hairstyles were permitted in school, but teachers and students alike were confident to rock their outlandish look.
The day was followed by Career Day, a theme that everyone participated in actively. Many of our schoolmates put in the effort to dress up in different types of clothing associated with jobs that they found interesting and inspiring. There were aspiring astronauts, lawyers, and even movie directors walking around the school. This theme encouraged us to share about what we dressed up as, and everyone asked each other excitedly about their career outfits.
The fourth theme was Cultural Day, which was made extra special because the Parent-Teacher Association organised an international food sampling event for us during recess! My classmates were so stuffed from all the delicious food shared by PTA in the canteen. At the same time, it provided a great opportunity for us to see how others had dressed up for the theme. There were so many vibrant and diverse clothes worn, such as traditional clothing from different countries, shirts with flags displayed proudly on them and many different interpretations of the country or culture they represented. The respect and appreciation for other countries displayed through the food and outfits heightened the atmosphere and demonstrated SISHK’s true school spirit.
We ended Spirit Week with Pyjamas Day being a smash hit. Students dressed up in pyjamas of their choice and were encouraged to bring along their favourite pillows, blankets and stuffed toys. It was ironic to have everyone showing higher energy levels and being ready for school instead of slumping on their seats as if they were sleepy. This truly showed how much the students enjoyed the themes for Spirit Week as they enthusiastically dressed up for the them! We are immensely proud of how SISHK showed whole-school unity and support throughout the event and we will work towards bringing more fun experiences and memories next academic year!
