Ms. Elly Chan –Preparatory Years, Chinese
Ms Chan is originally from Jiangsu, China. She holds a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Chinese from Guangzhou Sun Yat-sen University, a Master of Arts in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and a PGDE in Early Childhood from the University of Hong Kong.
She worked in Victoria International Kindergarten before joining SISHK. She strongly believes that each child is unique. She aims to deliver our curriculum in a safe, happy and caring environment. Using different teaching methods and fun activities to engage and active children, encouraging children to reach their full potential and being the life long learners.
Ms. Leanne Chui –Preparatory Years, English
Ms Chui is a passionate and caring teacher. She has been working and teaching children for over 12 years. Originally from the United Kingdom, in a big city called Manchester, she first encountered working with children during her work experience at a primary school at the age of 16. It was during that memorable experience where she found her interest and passion in teaching.
Following this passion, Ms Chui then went on to complete her degree in Childhood Studies, Education and Culture at the University of Leeds in the U.K., before furthering her studies with the completion of the PGCE teacher training course. Ms Chui has taught in the U.K. for. 2 years before travelling to Hong Kong to pursue her career in teaching and to be closer to her family. A few years ago, she went on to complete the Masters in Education degree at the University of Bristol where she hopes to continue to learn and develop key skills to take on leadership roles in the future.
Ms Chui believes that all children are unique and full of potential to be anything they want to be. She feels blessed with the opportunity to make a difference in children’s lives and wishes them all the love and happiness in everything they do!
Ms. Rachel Yu –Preparatory Years, English
Ms Yu is from Winnipeg, Canada and has been living in Hong Kong for four years. She resides here with her husband and son.
Ms Yu graduated with a Bachelors in Education from the University of Winnipeg. Ms Rachel has 4 years of experience teaching in both primary and kindergarten levels. Before coming to Hong Kong, she has worked in multiple settings such as schools and Daycare centres and has work in the field of respite.
Shortly after graduation, she earned a position in a Bilingual kindergarten where she stayed for three years. Ms. Yu is a believer in teaching the whole child and bringing joy to learning. She believes each child has unlimited potential and it’s the teacher’s responsibility to create an environment where they can explore in a safe, comfortable and welcomed way.
Ms. Angela Chan – Primary Years, Chinese
Ms Chan is from Hong Kong. Putonghua is my first language. I graduated from The University of Hong Kong with a Master of Education in Chinese Language and Literature.I also hold B.Ed in Education from Taiwan National Dong Hwa University.
I believe every child is unique and education is not a one-size-fits-all discipline.From my perspective, it is essential that my approach is tailored to the specific learning needs of each student.My role as the teacher will be to assist each child in developing their own potential and learning styles. As a primary teacher, I strongly believe that fostering critical thinking skills is at the heart of what we do in education.
Ms. Audrey Chua – Primary Years, Mathematics and Science
Ms Chua is from Singapore. She holds a BA in Psychology from Nanyang Technological University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore. She discovered her love for flying when she was living in the USA and currently holds a Private Pilot License. She joined the Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore, in 2010 and is a Gifted Education Teacher. She is a recipient of the biennial Caring Teacher Award (2018) and the MOE Service Excellence Award (Gold) in 2018.
Ms. Chua’s personal teaching quote goes by “Teach them to count the stars with their minds and reach for them with their hearts”. Her mission is to ignite the joy of learning and to nurture children into self-directed life-long learners.
Mr. George Flitton – Primary Years, English and Science
I have always been passionate about education. I believe that having a strong education is the most powerful asset a person can possess.
I strive to inspire my pupils to succeed inside and outside my classroom, academically and socially; in every aspect of life.
Upon completion of my bachelors degree, I returned to my home city of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom, to undertake my teaching qualification.
After gaining my teaching qualification and teaching license, I taught in Cambridge for one year before moving to Hong Kong to continue my profession.
I feel honoured and privileged to now be working at SISHK.
Ms. Jasmine Kho – Primary Years, Mathematics
Ms Kho is from Singapore and graduated with bachelor in Arts with Diploma in Education and Master in Teaching of English from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She is also trained in the math teaching pedagogies for the high progress students as well as students who need extra learning support.
Teaching is her first job and the joy of teaching has kept her in the teaching profession for 24 years. In the earlier years, she used to specialised in teaching upper primary English and Math but now, she specialise in the teaching of Maths. In 2001, she was appointed the head of department for Discipline and Students Well-Being. In 2013, she was then appointed the head of department for Mathematics in a new school. In 2020, she joined SIS HK as Head of Department for Mathematics.
She believe that every child can learn and want to learn. They will find joy in learning when they are engaged, motivated and inspired. As all students have different learning styles and needs, a curriculum caters to the different learning styles as well as make the content relevant to the students’ live will ignite the joy of learning in the students.
Ms. Josephine Leung – Primary Years, Learning and Behavioural Support
Ms Leung is from Hong Kong. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology (First class honours) from University College London and a PGDE in special education (Distinction) from the University of Hong Kong.
Ms Leung had experience teaching and supporting students with special educational needs in different settings for 6 years, including private learning centres, special school and mainstream school. She aims to foster a supportive community where each student feels safe, belonged, motivated and appropriately challenged. She believes that every student is unique and should be respected and valued regardless of their background, ethnicity, or ability.
Ms. Alice Ma – Primary Years, Visual Art
Ms. Ma is from Canada and she graduated with a BA in Communication Art from Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD) in Toronto. To further her knowledge, she completed Postgraduate Diploma from Hong Kong University of Education. She has over 10 years teaching experience.
Teaching is the most fulling job she has ever done. She loves spending time with children, and enjoy seeing children’s big smiles. Ms. Ma’s teaching philosophy is to nurture and scaffold children to be well-rounded in all learning areas and learn with them at the same time. As for her hobby, she enjoys arts, travelling and scuba diving .
Ms. Eileen Tan – Primary Years, Mathematics and Science
Ms Tan is a Singaporean who graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Education from Nanyang Technological University.
Ms Tan specializes in Mathematics and Science and was a former Assistant Year Head during her teaching tenure in Singapore. She is a firm believer that every child is unique and they have an infinite potential to learn. She believes in encouraging self-expression and developing self-confidence through creative thinking and engaging curiosity.
Ms. Yeo Hwee Khim – Primary Years, English and Social Studies
Ms Yeo hails from sunny Singapore and has been teaching upper primary students for more than 12 years. Beyond her teaching experience, she also holds a Masters’ Degree in Curriculum and Teaching, awarded by the National Institute of Education, Singapore. Her previous appointments as an English Subject Head as well as a three-year posting at Singapore Ministry Of Education Headquarters prior to joining SISHK have helped Ms Yeo to better customise instructional methods to the needs of each individual student.
Ms Yeo possesses a strong personal belief that all children can learn, given sufficient support from the adults around them. She also believes in guiding students to be lifelong learners by providing them with autonomy of choice and responsibility for their own learning.
