Innovation and Design projects inspire digital creativity and engineering mindset
In today’s highly dynamic digital world, new technology will emerge suddenly and turn novel ideas into new products and customer experience. We are preparing students to be creative problem solvers by teaching them computational thinking and design thinking using digital technology as the medium.
Gizmo Box
The Gizmo Box project promotes the joy of learning by enabling students to consolidate their coding skills and apply them in a fun and creative way. Students used block-based programming to code and add blocks using different input sensors, and then download it to their Micro:bit. Together with the use of foil, alligator clips, cardboard and additional materials of their choice, the Gizmo Box is able to carry out specific functions such as playing music, detecting temperature and more.

Newspaper tower
Our P5 students are challenged to design and construct the tallest freestanding structure with limited supplies, including recycled newspapers, magazines, worksheets, tape, pencils, notebooks and scissors. Students competed with their teachers to build their own paper towers in less than 30 minutes which had to be freestanding for at least 20 seconds. Afterwards they had to reflect on their own design and seek improvements. This exercise parallels real-world limitations such as time and economic restrictions that engineers have to face, and provides students with inspiration and enthusiasm for STEM subjects.
