Head and Vice-Head Prefect Election
by Tobias Cheung, P6C
It was a great honour to be nominated by my fellow prefects and to canvass for the role of Head Prefect. It was very exciting and fun preparing the posters, but at the same time, it was very stressful. The stress came about as I knew that I get very nervous when having to present in front of people, and I was expected to present to all P3-P6 students during our Level Assemblies.
Although it was a trying period for me, it actually showed me how fortunate I am to be surrounded by wonderful friends and teachers at SISHK. Upon knowing my predicament, the teachers guided me along the way and did their best to make me feel at ease on the stage. The fellow senior prefects who ran the canvassing together with me constantly encouraged me with positive words, and so did my classmates. Even students I did not know would flash me a smile, or give me words of encouragement to make me feel better.
When I stood on the stage during P5/6 Assembly, I was shivering so much with fear. Halfway through my speech, I started to tear up because I was very nervous, but luckily, my friends and teachers gave me the courage to go on. I told myself I would do better in my second presentation the next day. I was determined not to cry, and I actually did way better on the second day than I had thought. I felt an immense sense of relief. Feeling proud of myself, I knew I couldn’t have done it without the help from my friends and teachers.
This event has allowed me to challenge myself and I was glad I perservered. I am proud of Gavin and Hugo for leading us as Head and Vice-head Prefect respectively and I will continue to do my best in the Prefect Committee!
