DP1 Leadership Camp

by Tsong Jin Ming (DP1A)
On 30 September 2017, the DP1s traveled to Sai Wan, Sai Kung to take part in this year’s SISHK Tier 2 Leadership Camp. The DP1 leadership camp was different from the other school camps because unlike the broad-based adventure camps in S1-S4, the DP1 students’ core objective was focused on how to become leaders and reliable teammates in dynamic groups.
Throughout the two action-packed days, the cohort recognised the strengths and weaknesses of their own leadership skills, and tried to improve on them. The camp was not just focused on the appointed leaders of each group, but also the wellbeing of all the members in supporting each other mentally to overcome every obstacle that stood in their way.
Personally, the entire camp experience was extremely valuable as I got to work with members of my cohort that I never really interacted with in the past. This has been a really helpful experience because it’s provided us with a chance to take a step closer towards being prepared to work with unfamiliar individuals with whom we will have to establish relationships with, communicate with, and situations where we need to assist one another, all the while working towards the same goal. The skills we gained are definitely applicable beyond the camp setting, such as when doing group projects in school, at university, or in our future careers.
I highly encourage individuals to join this camp in the future. This will not only help you in your leadership roles in DP and in your group projects, but it will most importantly benefit you in your future as you will learn a lot about being an effective team player and successful leader.
