DP1 Collaborative Science Project
As part of the IBDP Group 4 program known as Collaborative Science Project (CSP), our students participated in a learning journey at Ocean Park to understand the local conservation efforts. Two groups of students learned about the equipment and methods used in examining marine animals and understand marine life stranding through actual cases. Another group of students learned about the concept of citizen science and what questions can the public ask about the species that they are interested to observe. The students model the process of collecting and classifying data. A fourth group had the opportunity to visit behind-the-scene area and engage with an Ocean Park aquarist who shared her experiences about the daily operations of animal caretakers. The DP1 students came up with different topics related to marine life conservation and collaborated to produce posters and videos to educate the school community about conservation. The students were further challenged to put on their thinking caps to discuss TOK concepts e.g. perspectives, ethics. One of the questions students ponder over is the role experts play in influencing our consumption or acquisition of knowledge. Stay tune for their presentations during Family Fiesta!
