Sec 2 ‘Soft Skills’ – ‘Beyond the Technical’
It is currently a challenging time to apply for an undergraduate course and to enter the workforce for the first time. Candidates with strong ‘soft skills’ are always in high demand.
Mr Yowjie Chien, Managing Director from J.P. Morgan, delivered a career talk to our secondary 2 students on 26 May about the importance of ‘soft skills’ in the workplace.
He explained that the recruitment criteria were not only limited to technical abilities. Soft skills such as good leadership and communication skills and the ability to work well with diversity are sought from candidates in competitive job markets. Employers are looking for optimistic, responsible staff with integrity and good time management skills. Universities also consider holistic character attributes from their applicants. Students should aim to build a strong well-rounded character from now until leaving secondary education.
