Hong Kong Young Physicists’ Tournament 2021
Congratulations to our teams from S4 for winning the Gold Award and Bronze Award in the Hong Kong Young Physicists’ Tournament 2021.
The HKYPT tests students’ ability to solve complicated real-world physics problems. Students go through process of what physicists do; from research to modeling, experimentation and finally to an oral defense before peers and experts.
The Gold Award winning team presented a problem on “Three-sided dice” where they were supposed to determine the physical and geometrical characteristics of a cylindrical dice so that it had the same probability to land on its side and one of its faces. The team also debated on opponents’ problem which was on “water spiral” where a stream of liquid was launched through a small hole, then under certain conditions it twisted into a spiral.
“I am deeply impressed by the performance of the students today, in terms of the skills they used and their understanding of the problems, as well as their clear presentation. It gives students an excellent opportunity to taste science research and plan their future studies.” A professor who was impressed by the participants said.
