Amphibian toy cars
In SISHK, we encourage our students to be inquisitive, imaginative and see learning as interconnected. Aligning with our school’s goals to deepen students’ scientific concepts through various extended tasks, the Innovation and Design department developed this unique amphibian toy car activity for the primary four students during their makerspace recess activity. The students applied what they learned in P3 Science on the characteristics of different animal groups and had fun making this creative amphibian toy car that can move on land and in water. Kudos to our primary four students for their enthusiastic participation in this activity!

Straws and Connectors

Our P2 students completed their first STEM challenge in Makerspace this year by building a bridge as a team using straws and connectors. This STEM challenge required students to identify the properties of 3-D shapes they have learnt in Math class and collaborate with their teammates to build a bridge together within 15 minutes. Our lovely P2 students exercised the school value of harmony and resilience during the process and the room was filled with excitement and cheers!

Light up cards

To consolidate students’ learning on the topic of circuits in the Science class, the P5 and P6 students were invited to join the Makerspace activity of making a light-up card. By using simple materials such as a paper circuit, copper tape, a coin cell battery, an LED and a straw, each student made a cool light-saber card that could glow in the dark!

Lego Challenge

Our P1 students embark on a series of LEGO Challenges this year using their creativity and collaborative skills. The LEGO challenge is a team-building activity in which students must work in groups to build a structure out of LEGO without any instructional menu within a short time. Check out their first LEGO Challenge of building a skyscraper that can withstand gravity!

Makey Makey

This year our P3 students engage in a variety of fun Makerspace activities that embed the STEM concepts using Makey Makey. It is a hands-on invention kit that can turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them to the internet. One of the activities that they did was using playdough and Makey Makey to create a controller that allowed them to doodle and draw on the computer screen. Our inquisitive students displayed curiosity, resilience and awesome teamwork during the process.
