Leadership Action Committee End of Year Reports

by Goh Zhuo Lin (S3L)

The Leadership Action Committee (LAC) has completed its second year together, and we have accomplished a great deal.

Over the past year, the LAC has been responsible for updating the house banners, located in the 4/F Plaza, which are done every week after an event has taken place. The LAC created several different customized symbols for events such as the AC Badminton, DEAR, S2 Benchball and many more to record the number of house points that were awarded to each house per event to track who was in the lead as current House Cup champions.

The LAC has also worked with other groups to raise awareness of various issues of concern and co-organise events. For example, LAC worked with the Human Rights Group to raise awareness on humanitarian issues during the Human Rights month so that the student body could begin to take action in addressing these issues within SISHK and beyond. Focusing on topics not limited to discrimination, women’s rights, and modern day slavery, the LAC used Kahoot quizzes, speeches, presentations, posters, surveys, plaza support boards, and videos to get their messages and activities across to the SISHK community. In addition, assisting with VOLTA, an event held by the CAS students on 20 April 2018 was a great success. Stalls were set up all around the 4/F Plaza which included booths for selling merchandise, crafts/game stalls, a photo booth, food and drink stands, and performances which everyone enjoyed.

An astute highlight of the LAC is its annual Partners Appreciation Day. This day is devoted for the guardians and catalysts of our school community such as the schools security teams, bus providers, catering committees, cleaning teams and many more. The LAC strives to recognise and express the student body’s utmost gratitude and respect for the countless hours and energy that the many partners invest in their jobs, to contribute daily to our school community in a variety of ways. Aside from holding a ceremony to establish and articulate their contributions, gift baskets and cards were offered to the partners as a symbol of appreciation for their contributions to our school community. The AY1718 marked the 2nd year of the ceremony being run successfully by LAC members.

According to William Arthur Ward, “The mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates and the great teacher inspires.” The contribution of our acclaimed teachers resonate amongst the school community, and form an integral pillar for our extended knowledge and development. Therefore, a few LAC members assisted in supporting our DP1 CAS students’ initiative to put together Teachers’ Appreciation Day to commemorate current and leaving teachers for their contributions to our school community at the end of the school year. This not only raises the esteem of such teachers, but gives the student body a platform to express our appreciation for their contributions and inspirations, and it was an event that was much-appreciated by many.

As the year comes to an end, we look forward to continuing these events next year with your support, learning from this year’s challenges and building upon this year’s successes.
