President of Athletic Council Kaitlyn Shi
Kaitlyn Shi, DP1B
Through many years as a student at SISHK, I think I’ve grown a lot as a leader. From having minor roles in the primary section such as being a class and school monitor, I progressed to being a prefect and then a member of the Athletic Council (AC). My teachers and schoolmates have guided me to learn from my mistakes and shortcomings, inspiring me to strive to be a better leader. I have constantly been encouraged to keep growing with every lesson and learning experience.
As last year’s co-vice president, I learnt a lot on how being an executive member of a council works. I wanted to run for the position of the president of the AC as I wanted to make a larger impact and give back to the school, as well as to inspire younger AC members to do the same. Having watched the council grow since I joined as a member in S1, I’ve always loved how much we improve each year, both as individuals and the council as a whole. AC members aren’t just working together in a council. Instead, we are a family of energetic and enthusiastic student leaders who work towards a shared goal of fulfilling our mission statement.
Watching teachers and students participate and enjoy the events we hold is very gratifying. The engagement of the audience drives me to keep working on new ideas for the AC. Endless brainstorming, organising, planning and constant discussion allow us to give back to the school by presenting a platform where students can take part in diverse sporting activities and de-stress at the same time. Many AC events contribute house points to the house cup, allowing us to build upon class and house spirit. I think that the AC plays a role in shaping the school environment, and I hope to make a positive impact with my position.
I am extremely grateful to be taking on the role as the president of the AC. My vision this year is for members to continue to put in time and effort to creating school events, but more importantly to be passionate about the work we do and that all of us encourage ourselves and each other to develop our leadership skills. Additionally, I want to ensure that all AC members feel that they are important to the council and know that their contributions impact the school. I wish to guide my fellow AC members to achieving our mission statement through the many events that we will hold throughout the year. I hope to bring a variety of different sporting events that encourage student participation in order to foster a lively school environment. I am truly looking forward to having a great year ahead working alongside the AY2018/19 AC family!
