Netball U20 Girls Team
Hannah Ng DP1A
This year I had the privilege of being the Captain of the U20 Girls Netball team again. Some might say we ended the season empty handed, but I digress, as our team has been through thick and thin. We have stepped away from this season not just with a greater aptitude for the technical skill and physical standards that netball demands, but also a greater understanding of each other, and ourselves. As a passionate netball player, I have grown to understand my own strengths and weaknesses, whether it be on the court as a Goal Attack, searching for ways to breach the opponent’s’ defense and score a goal, or off the court as a leader and listener to my fellow players. As a team, we have developed a greater chemistry, learning to understand each other’s nonverbal cues and body language. Our teamwork, although not perfect at the beginning, grew and developed over the course of 3 months.
Looking back at the beginning of the season, the first battle was getting a U20 team assembled and I would like to thank Mr Wojewnik for giving me that essential guidance. We started off with only 6 members from last year’s U16 team, including myself, but lacked 2 members as a team should consist of at least 8 players, 7 on court. Thankfully, we managed to recruit 2 new players who grasped the rules of the games fairly quickly and were essential to our offensive and defensive plays. It was truly delightful to see that many of our members were committed to netball, such as staying back late for our tireless trainings despite our hectic IBDP schedule due.
Although we faced difficulties such as having all members present for trainings, leading to our lack of communication and other essential team building skills in games, it was through this valuable process which ultimately taught us the importance of compromising as a team.
Lastly, our team would like to wholeheartedly thank our Netball teacher in charge, Ms Ang, and Coach Iris for giving us the best guidance and support anyone could ever ask for. Without them, the girls and I would not have been able to have such a fruitful netball journey.
