Volleyball U14 Boys Team

Volleyball U14 Boys Team

A season full of expectations; playing in the gold division was a step up from the last academic year and a welcomed but anticipated challenge. Training began at the start of the new school year with games starting the week after. This meant the team had to be ready. Some new strategies and skills were introduced and the team got off to a flying start winning their first game. However this couldn’t be replicated again and no more wins were achieved. This did not dampen any of the team spirit. We grew individually and together really shone through.

Some problems the team faced were new players in S1 and S2, some completely new to volleyball; training time versus match time; selecting of shots and how to execute the more advanced skills or strategies. However these problems were not hurdles the team failed at. Together and through more training, learning the qualities of the team forward strides were made and improvements started to blossom. New formations were introduced plus the type of shot selection used based on the player attributes. The team spirit increased due to new developments and player progress.

Looking back over the volleyball season, you can judge a team by results, but our journey really displayed the values of a positive attitude and the desire to improve with the types of techniques, strategies, teamwork and harmony. One player really stood out and was able to go above and beyond this; Caleb Foong from S2L proves that with the above, you can make a difference. It is safe to say that with hard work and team support, Caleb improved his serve and game awareness, thus started to get more court time. The team was fully behind him and his achievement. Success really does inspire success and this was measured by how Caleb improved. It also motivated and encouraged the team to see him do so well.

A season to treasure for many different reasons!
